14th stop – Conakry, Guinea!

The colourful bilingual Kick Polio Out of Africa banner – featured in the background of this photograph of Rotary West African Singer and Polio Goodwill Ambassador Zeynab – provided an excellent promotional resource for events in Conakry.

“Everyone wants to touch and film the historic ball”. This is exactly what happened when NPPC Chair Moussa Diakete presented the ball to all three clubs in Conakry before presenting it to the Minister of Health, Dr Ibrahim Sow. The ball has a tangible magical energy.

More elaborate events in Guinea could not be planned as the ball arrived at a moment when the country was taking part in a synchronised  West and Central African National Immunisation drive covering around 65 million children under five years of age.

The ball was flown in from Ghana on April 28. NPPC Chair Moussa Diakete presented the ball to the Minister of Health – Dr Ibrahima Sow – the next day at a function well-attended by Rotarians, Cadres and Partners. The local press were given a short history of the ball and the countries through which the ball had travelled. More importantly, local press were briefed on the  significant and positive impact that the ball has had on arrival in each country to mobilise support for the strategically important immunisation campaigns taking place in Central and West Africa.

From Conakry the football proceeds to Burkina Faso to be presented to Presidents, leaders and members of Rotary District 9100 in Ouagadougou at its district conference. Hundreds of Rotarians will have the opportunity to align to the positive energy of the Kick Polio Out of Africa football and to come together in solidarity to EndPolioNow. The goal is within our reach!

Many thanks to DHL for accommodating the slight deviation to our schedule!
